I. The Kingdom led by God

A. If the Church is led by men, and not truly the Kingdom of God then it is true that one Church is as good as another.

1. “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Acts 1:6 (ESV)

a. The Question of the Kingdom.

b. They didn’t need to worry about the timing but follow God. “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:7-8 (ESV)

2. The Holy Spirit would direct them.

a. We are not the secret weapons in God’s plan.
b. We are the instruments through which he works.
c. God doesn’t need our help in planning but our obedience as followers.
d. What had Christ taught them about the Holy Spirit.

B. The work of the Holy Spirit in the Kingdom

1. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. John 14:15-18 (ESV)
2. “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:25-26 (ESV)
3. “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. John 15:26-27 (ESV)
4. “I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: John 16:4-8 (ESV)
5. I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. John 16:12-15 (ESV)
